say hello #gaultier is a series of meetups designed to give our awesome followers (that’s you!) the opportunity to meet a surprise host during the exhibition The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk. During our first meetup our chief designer, Matthew Yokobosky, gave Daeja, Hal, Kathryn, Steve, and Aurore the behind the scenes scoop on what it took to install the exhibition.
Who will the next guests be?  That’s up to you… http://bit.ly/sayhellogaultier

The total rebellion, the trash, “destroy” look, the raw side of punk, with its Mohawk haircuts, almost tribal makeup, allusions to sex, torn fishnet stockings, black, kilts, bondage straps, mixing of genders and materials—all that appealed to me. It spoke to me, suiting me much better than some of the ossified conventions of couture. In her boutique, Vivienne Westwood was already selling items straight out of sex shops, like latex bodysuits, leather harnesses and S&M underwear. But you have to remember that when the phenomenon first appeared, the looks weren’t so exaggerated.” —Jean Paul Gaultier

We couldn’t confirm the special host until the last minute, but that didn’t stop Yayoi, Ricky, Jen, Joshua, and Vera from joining us for our second meetup with Christian Louboutin! We learned what was it like working with Gaultier and how he came up with his signature red sole. Who will our next special host be? You won’t know unless you join us…http://bit.ly/sayhellogaultier

Katie, Young-Ji, Kelli, Elyse, Roedean, Jade and Dolores all arrived at the Brooklyn Museum last Friday for the third meetup in our say hello #gaultier series. The group received a private tour with our charming host and Gaultier exhibition curator, Thierry-Maxime Loriot. Thierry spent an hour walking our guests through the show while giving wonderful insights into Jean-Paul Gaultier, the fashion world, and his path as a model-turned-curator.

We have more surprise hosts lined up for future meetups. Will you say hello #gaultierhttp://bit.ly/sayhellogaultier

Fashion designer, Gilles Montezin, joined us last night to share his expertise with our guests during our fourth say hello #gaultier meetup. Esther, Claire, Sharee and Marlyn viewed Gaultier’s designs while learning from Gilles the background, the principles and the pain-staking practices of haute couture.
Every say hello #gaultier host provides a different perspective on The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier, whose will be next? See for yourself… http://bit.ly/sayhellogaultier

We found a few fashion icons to host our remaining say hello #gaultier meetups and we can’t wait for you to meet them.
If you would like a chance to get inside The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier with one of our surprise hosts, we’re still accepting applications for participants… bit.ly/sayhellogaultier

Last night our say hello #gaultier guests, Nicole, Natalie, Caitlin, Berton and Emily were greeted by none other than, Tim Gunn. The fashion consultant, mentor and television personality took some time before his conversation with Valerie Steele to walk our special guests through the exhibition and discuss Gaultier’s impact and longevity in the fashion world.

There are a couple more meetups planned before The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier ends. If you’d like the chance to say hello, sign up at bit.ly/sayhellogaultier

Who better to talk about what it’s like to work with Gaultier than one of his very own muses? Model, Coco Rocha took an hour away from her busy New York Fashion Week schedule this week to host our seventh say hello #gaultier meetup. Guiding Yana, Cassie, Amy, Becca and Nick through the exhibition, oh-so-coco pointed out pieces she wore and talked about the respect and loyalty Gaultier shows to each of his models.
This exhibition ends February 23rd and there is one final meetup planned and you still have an opportunity to participate.

Our eighth and final say hello #gaultier guests, Kelly, Meg, Sharon, Amelia, Ginny, Rosanna and Jasmine (not pictured) joined our Curator of Exhibitions, Lisa Small, for a private tour of Gaultier in its final weekend here at the Brooklyn Museum. As coordinating curator for the Museum’s presentation of The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier, Lisa had much to share about Gaultier, his wildly imaginative body of work, and everything that went into bringing this successful exhibition to Brooklyn.
Gaultier might be over, but stay tuned for futuremeetups this Spring. With Brooklyn street artist, Swoon coming to the Brooklyn Museum, you’ll soon have a chance to say hello #swoonstreetart
